Pacific Regional Report
Carolyn Kelly, Regional Representative
Skagit Conservation District
Mount Vernon, Washington
Date:  January, 2007

States in the Region:

Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington

Number of States with State Associations:  4

Officers:           President - Carolyn Kelly, Washington
Vice President – Debbie Tiede, Idaho

Legal Status of Regional CD Employees Association:  Currently, the organization has no tax exempt status, although the draft strategic plan recommends pursuing this avenue.

Annual Meeting:  A meeting was held concurrently with the Pacific NACD Regional Meeting in Boise, Idaho in June, 2006.  The business conducted at that time consisted solely of filling the vacant positions of President and Vice President.

Regional Activity:  The Pacific Region Association is in re-building mode.  Prior to the June 2006 meeting, there were no standing officers.  Two positions have been filled, and there are candidates for the other positions.  The strategic plan for the region has been located, and is under review for possible revision and updates.

Communication:  Improving lines of communication within the organization will be a major focus of regional work during the next year.  Because the regional spans multiple time zones, and is very large in size, this has caused problems in the past.    Many of the participating states do not have a state employee association, or the funding to provide for travel expenses, so in-person meetings are not practical at this time.  Developing and implementing a communications plan will be the top priority as we build a program to promote networking, training, and capacity building.

Training:  A comprehensive directory of available training programs will be developed.  Many of the existing state associations do provide some sort of formalized training for their state employees.  A primary goal is to increase access across state boundaries for these training programs for all within the region.
